What to Expect at Your First Chiropractic Visit
Booking a chiropractor for the first time can feel like a leap. You’re not sure what they’ll do, how long it’ll take, what it’ll cost, or whether it’ll actually help. This guide walks you through exactly what your first visit at Ground Up Chiropractic & Rehab looks like — from the moment you book to the moment you leave with a plan.
Booking Is Simple
You don’t need to call. You don’t need a referral. You don’t need a discovery call.
You can book online directly through our scheduling system. Pick a time that works for you at our Hamilton flagship clinic (our primary location, with a fully equipped gym), or on our scheduled clinic days in Mississauga and Stoney Creek.
We direct bill most major insurance providers, so most patients pay little to nothing out of pocket on day one.
What You’ll Bring
- A few minutes to fill out your intake form (sent before your appointment)
- Comfortable clothes you can move in
- Your insurance details, if you want us to direct bill
That’s it.
What Happens at the Visit
Your first visit is a full appointment — assessment, hands-on care when appropriate, and a clear plan. You leave knowing exactly what’s going on and what we’re going to do about it.
1. Conversation and History
We start with a real conversation. You tell us your story — what hurts, when it started, what makes it worse, what you’ve tried, and what you actually want to be able to do again. Whether that’s lifting heavy, running pain-free, sleeping through the night, or picking up your kids, your goals shape the plan.
This isn’t a quick intake form review. We want context.
2. Movement and Physical Assessment
Then we move. We look at how your body actually moves — joint by joint, region by region — and where it’s compensating. We perform orthopedic and neurological tests where they’re relevant, and we connect what you’re feeling to what we’re seeing.
By the end of the assessment, we know what’s driving the issue, not just where it shows up.
3. Diagnosis and Plan
We sit down and explain it. In plain language. You’ll know:
- What’s actually wrong
- Why it’s been happening
- What we’re going to do about it
- Roughly how long it’s likely to take
- What’s realistic to expect
If chiropractic and rehab are a fit, we lay out the plan. If you’d be better served by a referral elsewhere, we’ll tell you that too.
4. Treatment
In most cases, we treat on the first visit. That means hands-on care, soft tissue work, mobility work, and the first round of corrective or rehab exercises — built around what your body needs.
You leave with the start of a plan, a clear next step, and usually some homework.
Why This Matters
Most patients tell us this looks nothing like what they’ve experienced before — quick adjustments, ten-minute appointments, vague advice, or being handed a stretching sheet. That’s not what we do.
You’ll work directly with Dr. Dimitar Variyski, D.C., in a clinic built around movement, rehab, and real results. Our Hamilton location includes a full gym so we can take you all the way from pain relief to long-term strength and resilience under one roof.
